Incentivizing Our F&B Team to Increase Food Sales.

During holidays and other busy restaurant days I buy teddy bears and other items like “soda cooler” for summer times and do a contest among the servers for higher liquor sales or most appetizer sales. I have worked in the service industry for a long time and one thing I have noticed is that prizes are more appealing for a server that already is making cash.

To motivate team members to sell wide range of products we started to recognized team member who’s contributing and generating revenue, an incentive program where a team member maximize revenue and increase their satisfaction and loyalty. The program had a specific target and if it is achieved price incentive and a certificate of recognition is awarded. It is also putting into action what they’ve learn in the past training regarding revenue maximizing or REVMAX, since then result are very productive as we achieved most of our budget specially on the month of July 2010 where our team member got almost KD 27 each.

From the time that we started the incentives program, all team members have shown their interest and willingness to up–sell. Our revenue shown a big difference as most of the target set are almost achieved. From those team members there is one person who really strives for success, Khin Su Hlaing who had been with us for a couple of year, proves that the skill and talent that she learned from the previous training is very effective and help a lot to improve and develop herself specially on building rapport to the guest. She received a lot of recognition and been awarded the consistently best seller of the month from the beginning of the program till present.
