Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Resort and Residences consists of a workforce with Team Members from more than 35 different countries. The rich and diverse culture of Team Members is celebrated throughout the year, and the key celebrations to recognise the rich and diverse culture of Team Members fall into two main categories: Independence/National Days and Cultural/Traditional Celebrations.
INDEPENDENCE/ NATIONAL DAYS
When independence/national days are approaching, Team Members have the opportunity to contact the HR department, who will support the celebrations. A typical celebration consists of decorating the team cafeteria and other team areas with flags and balloons reflecting the colours of the country being celebrated. This festive atmosphere is topped up with a display board explaining the history of the countries being celebrated through posters consisting of stunning pictures and articles. This is a very enriching experience for Team Members from different countries because they have the opportunity to find out more about a new country. The highlight of the celebration is indeed the cake-cutting ceremony, accompanied by national anthems and sometimes traditional songs. Independence days planned and organised by Team Members with a resounding success in 2011 included Pakistan (14th August), India (15th August), and Indonesia (17th August) Independence Day. Currently, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Resort and Residences is getting ready for the celebration of Sri Lanka Independence Day.
CULTURAL/ TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS
When Team Members would like to celebrate a cultural celebration from their home country, they once again contact the Human Resources department, who will support the event. Two cultural celebrations organised by Team Members in 2011 included Onam and Vijaya Dasami. Onam was celebrated at the Team Members’ accommodation on September 11, 2011, and is the most important festival of the state of Kerala in India. It is a harvest festival and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm. On October 6, 2011, Team Members from Nepal organised a ceremony at the Team Members’ accommodation in honour of Vijaya Dasami, which is a celebration of good over evil. All the cultural/traditional celebrations include Team Members from different countries and are an opportunity to share our rich and diverse culture. The celebrations usually consist of a show full of colours, terrific displays, music, entertainment, and traditional foods, which are indeed an enriching experience for all those attending.
