In the United States, one out of six kids – almost 17% – are at risk of hunger and malnutrition. In Brevard County, the figure exceeds 45%! During the school year, most of these children receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school. The Children’s Hunger Project helps over 1,000 children each week who are coming to school hungry on Monday mornings. The problem arises when these kids are on summer break…who feeds them then? With the help of the Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront’s Blue Energy Team our help, The Children’s Hunger Project was able to pack over 6,250 trays of food for the United Way’s summer “Read and Feed Program”. These trays will be handed out over the summer to children who need them.
