Congratulations to Steven Gerrie: A 2011 CEO Light & Warmth Award Winner!

Congratulations, Steven Gerrie, for being selected as a 2011 CEO Light & Warmth Award Winner!

Steven Gerrie
Assistant Health Club Manager
Hilton Aberdeen Treetops hotel, UK

Why is this Team Member deserving of the CEO Light and Warmth Award?
Nominated by his HR Officer, Steven especially embodies the values of Hospitality, Leadership, and Teamwork. He puts a special focus on one-on-one interactions with guests, smiling and offering helpful information about the hotel. Although he is technically the Assistant Health Club Manager, he also acts as the Duty Manager and Journey Ambassador when needed. His positive spirit encourages other Team Members to live the values, especially Teamwork.

Specific examples that show Steven’s commitment to the Hilton Worldwide values:
Steven is a Team Member Champion and always makes it a point to meet and help new Team Members. He takes time during their orientation to talk about Blue Energy and what the committee is doing. As an active member of the “Hilton in the Community Foundation,” he amazes everyone with his spirit, energy, and capacity to help at every event. Recently, Steven organized runners across their cluster of 7 hotels to join the Edinburgh Winger 5K run, despite the awful January weather conditions. Team Members want to participate and help because Steven’s spirit is infectious. Earlier in the year, the hotel’s Chairman of the Blue Energy Committee left, and for two months, Steven took the challenge of the Chairmanship and led the meetings until an election could be held. He continues to support the HR Function on making sure the Blue Energy Committee is active and doing its best and that monthly challenges are spread evenly throughout the hotel. Aside from doing his job, he has supported his Line Manager with her job as the Departmental Trainer, the Blue Energy Chairman, and the Vice-Chairman of the “Hilton in the Community Foundation” committee. For the past two years, the money raised by the hotel through this foundation was minimal. However, this year, the hotel soared up to the top 5 in the entire country, all because of Steven’s help. With his passion and commitment, the hotel reached its goals as early as June—reaching 201.35% of their target, which is an amazing result for such a small hotel. Steven is known for being everywhere in the hotel all at once, pitching in for his fellow Teammates for the betterment of the hotel. He implemented a visual display for the hotel that has photos of the fitness instructors and their area of specialty so hotel guests could recognize the instructors and inquire as needed. He has begun to help out with the Problem Resolution Workshops the hotel has implemented, again assisting in the training field to help his Team Members. He consistently gives input to management on ways the hotel can improve. On top of all of this, he offers his time not only to all of the members of the Blue Energy committee, but the Cluster Forum and the UK forum where he represents the hotel. Steven is commended for wearing so many hats: Assistant Health Club Manager, Duty Manager, Journey Ambassador, Blue Energy Chairman, Team Member Champion, Hilton in the Community Foundation Member, Cluster Forum Representative, and UK Forum Representative. He wears these hats with a special vigor and infectious spirit that helps the hotel, its Team Members, and guests in countless ways!
