International Housekeeping week was a whirlwind of fun around here! All event were attended by the Housekeeping team, the General Manager, and other managers who joined us to serve and support other events. The staff was given Housekeeping Week t-shirts to wear during the week and were given some nice insulated travel cups.
We started things off with a full department breakfast in our restaurant attended by our GM and HRD. We had the sunroom to ourselves with a long conference style setting so we could all sit together. It was an opportunity to formally thank each person for their contributions to the hotel and to talk about the upcoming events of the week.
The next day we had a Make Your Own Sundae bar set up for their afternoon break with the works! Well received as you might imagine.
On Wednesday the Banquet Manager delivered lunch from a favorite rotisserie chicken place in the neighborhood with all the fixings: beans, rice, tortillas, hot sauce, etc… During the luncheon we did a trivia contest with questions about the hotel. To include everyone we alternated questions between, English, Spanish and Burmese. It was fun and educational. We wrapped up with the GM talking about housekeeping’s impact on brand standards and service. At the very end employees were asked to check under their chair where we had hidden 10 cash prizes!
On Thursday we had a formal luncheon with managers from around the hotel cooking on the buffet line and serving associates. After eating with the associates the GM took some time to once again thank them for their service to the hotel. He discussed business levels over the past year and what they can expect going forward. The HR Director and Executive Housekeeper each spoke as well. At the end of the meeting we again asked them to check under their chairs for gift cards allowing them to choose from a dozen gift ranging from CD players, gift baskets and nice bottles of wine.
We wrapped up with a Fiesta on Friday where we invited all out employees to take part in celebrating our Housekeeping team. We had a homemade salsa contest with 23 entries from all over the world, Mexico, South America, Burma, and India. There were judged by a panel of 7 people made up of Managers and Hourly associates. The winner was announced at the event and received $100 cash; second and third place received $50 and $25 respectively. We had managers dress in Fiesta costumes and wrapped up the event with a BIG piñata filled with candy and certificates for an i-Pod, a day off with pay, $25 gas cards, and certificates for room service lunches for two. The event was a huge hit and tons of fun as you will see by the photos.
