On Saturday, May 7th, twenty-six volunteers from Embassy Suites San Diego – La Jolla (including friends and family) hosted a pit-stop for the 2011 Tour de Cure in San Diego. Tour de Cure is a series of cycling events held in 43 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Last year, more than 80,000 riders raised over 17 million dollars to prevent and cure diabetes, and improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.
With a 50’s theme including costumes, heart pumping rock n’ roll, hula hoop contests, and piles of Bazooka bubblegum (which riders stashed in their bike bags for later), the Embassy Suites San Diego – La Jolla volunteers offered food, drink, and tons of enthusiastic support to over 1,000 riders in five hours! Team members lined the street and cheered riders on with cowbells, clappers, horns, and lots of positive reinforcement – some of these cyclists still had another 60 miles to go in their ride! At the finish line, riders voted the Embassy Suites San Diego – La Jolla’s pit stop “#1” for their energy and team spirit!
