Taking Ownership, Exceeding Expectations and Impacting the Community!

Recognizing Katerina Brady, Spirit of Embassy Suites Winner, July 2010

Katerina is the president of our CARE committee and during the month of June she organized a food drive for the Oregon Food Bank.

Katerina took ownership of the project and began putting the details together in April and by the 2nd week of May she had excellent posters and billboards placed throughout the employee break areas explaining the contest rules and telling us how we could make a difference with just one can. During the 3rd week of May each department received a neatly decorated barrel or box to hold the donations.

When June arrived, Katerina weighed each department’s donations weekly and posted a fun chart to show how much each department had contributed and how much we had donated as a hotel. She encouraged departments during our daily huddles, and turned what could have been a boring chore into a fun contest that encouraged teamwork and helped the local community.

As a result of her positive attitude and leadership, the hotel exceeded her goal of 600 lbs. of food and money to donate. Instead, we were able to donate over 1,200 lbs. to the Oregon Food Bank for the month of June.
