Our hotel has implemented a recognition program we call “Hilton Bucks”. We have dollar-sized cards printed that look like dollars on one side, then on the other side, have room for the team member’s name, date, comment and a manager’s signature. Any time a manager or supervisor catches a team member “doing it right”, whether it’s helping out another department, getting a great comment for a guest, or any other “buck-worthy” behavior, the manager will fill out a Hilton Buck and present it to the team member. The team member will then go to Human Resources, where they get to choose from one of three prizes to try for. At the end of the month, all one name is drawn for each prize. The prizes include gift cards for movie theaters, gas stations and restaurants. This low-cost recognition really goes a long way, and the team members light up when presented with a Hilton Buck!
