The aim of this activity was to meet and celebrate Mother¹s Day with elderly women and make them feel special. After the arrival at Arya Mahila Ashram, we saw elderly women sitting in a room waiting eagerly for us. Our team found women who were abandoned and deserted by their children or who had left their families, fed up with the humiliation and ill-treatment.
Team members gave a rose to each one of them. Women were excited and looked cheerful, perhaps because they could see the reflection of their children in us. We all interacted with them and encouraged them to sing something to elevate their heavy hearts full of agony and isolation. Later we did a cake cutting ceremony to mark “Mother’s Day,” and distributed special hampers to all.
This was a learning experience for all team members as before this most of them had never been to an old age home. Though the team spent only a few hours with them, they made them realise the value of elderly people and the tenderness with which they need to take care of them. Many of the elders addressed the team and even invited them to visit again. They were very happy to have us there and they also mentioned this in their vote of thanks. Needless to say, our team gave them a little regard and they showered tons of blessings on us.
