Across Hilton Worldwide, we share an unwavering commitment to our communities and serving beyond the four walls of our hotels. This holiday season, we recognize those hotels that exemplify this global focus.
Hilton New York, NY, found an impactful way to serve the community, and at the same time, support Hilton Worldwide’s sustainability initiatives. As Assistant Director of F&B at one of the largest hotels in New York City, Jason Tresh saw first hand that food was going to waste – specifically food that was prepared but left untouched after big events.
This fall, Jason attended a volunteer meeting at City Harvest, a local food rescue organization that feeds hungry New Yorkers. He reached out to the organization to see if they could make use the hotel’s leftover food. With management and team member support, arrangements were made for City Harvest to make food pickups on an ongoing basis and distribute the food to community food programs.
The entire F&B team quickly embraced the idea and pitched in to make the program a success.” Cooks, banquet servers, managers, and more. We couldn’t have done it without such tremendous team support,” says Jason.
In this time of economic hardship, the hotel’s efforts have so far resulted in the delivery of approximately 5,000 pounds of food to over 2,000 people in need! “It suits our hotel needs,” says Jason. “It supports Hilton Worldwide’s sustainability initiative. It compliments the hotel’s green initiative. And it’s the right thing to do.”
Through word of mouth and articles in the hotel newsletter, Jason’s efforts have taken off. Multiple departments have since gotten involved. “People are excited about making a difference, interested in participating, and want to help out in the community,” Jason adds. “We’re fortunate, and it’s time to give back.”
Thanks Hilton New York! When your hotel gives back, you can make a difference for others — while boosting morale, building teamwork, and creating lasting goodwill for your property.
