Housekeeping Incentive Program Improves “Attention to Detail” Scores.

Hampton Inn Grand Rapids-North, MI

We were having issues with our housekeeping and their attention to detail. Although our rooms were cleaned a lot of little details were missed.

In order to make it a fun learning experience I made Hampton Bucks (fun money). I would score the rooms and they would get minus one point for anything dirty or detail missed.

If they had a perfect room they would earn 10 Hampton bucks, if they had two or less things wrong they would earn 5 Hampton bucks, and if they missed 5 or less items they would receive 2 Hampton bucks.

I made it a point to take the housekeeper back to the room and point out the areas they missed and they learned really quickly, now my housekeepers average around 97%.

At the end of every quarter I would open the Hampton shop where they could buy various goods ranging from gift cards, lunch for the team, beauty product gift bags, and Hampton items.

This is great! We actually have done sort of the same thing at our hotel once a month. We give each housekeeper 10.00 and we do an inspection with the whole housekeeping team. Everytime something is found wrong they get 1.00 taken away. They LOVE it! It has got them so fired up and excited. We are having housekeepers walk away with 8 & 9 dollars now!
