Ideas for Celebrating International Housekeeping Week.

September 11–17, 2016, is International Housekeeping Week. It’s time to bring this important back-of-house team to the forefront and give a big shout-out to the team that keeps our rooms shining and our guests smiling year-round. Here’s how a few of our properties celebrated last year.

• Managers at Conrad Beijing delivered gifts to each of their team, including a handwritten card of appreciation, hand cream, and a Conrad Beijing Panda personalized with each Team Member’s name.
• Hilton Zhengzhou held a pillow-stacking competition and took a team photo as a memento of the week. Team Members and management also took a break to dance to the hit Chinese pop song “Little Apple.”
• Team Members at Homewood Suites by Hilton Jacksonville-South/St. Johns Ctr. were treated to a kickoff breakfast, personalized gift bags, a wrap-up luncheon, and a Mummify Me contest where they had five minutes to cover each other in toilet paper! Hilton
• Between a delicious kickoff breakfast, treats, and games, Team Members at Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, took a break to tour the historic Colosseum.
• The Accounting and Human Resources team at Juniper Hotel Cupertino, Curio Collection by Hilton, treated the Housekeeping team to a Chinese luncheon. In addition to delicious food and a raffle drawing, each Housekeeping Team Member received a tote bag and $25 gift card. The hotel also hosted a yoga class for the team.
• DoubleTree by Hilton London – Chelsea held a towel-folding contest. “There was great competition and fun between the girls,” said Patricia Henry. “Our Regional Operations Manager judged the event, and after some consideration chose Dominika’s folded elephant.”
• Team Members at Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando North held a contest to see who could strip three pillows and put the cases back on the fastest — while blindfolded. “We had prizes for all participants,” said Laetitia Perkins. “Everybody had a great time.”
• Hampton Inn by Hilton Duluth held a relay race where Team Members had to walk with a roll of toilet paper between their legs and successfully drop it onto a plunger. Then they had to walk with a ping-pong ball on a spoon in their mouth without dropping it.
• The HODs at Conrad Bangkok were transformed into Housekeepers for the day, learning how to make beds and fold towels into swans.Embassy IHW
• Hilton Garden Inn Times Square rented a photo booth to print unlimited custom photo strips of their Team Members, played musical chairs and trivia with prizes, and brought in 6-foot hero sandwiches for their Heroes of Housekeeping.
• Team Members at Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi made beautiful flower decorations, enjoyed cake, and participated in an activity to benefit Soap for Hope, making soap cakes out of recycled soap.
• Housekeepers at Conrad Seoul were asked to submit a photo showing their best moment, like a wedding or birth of a child. Team Members across the hotel voted on their favorites.
• Hilton Grand Vacations at SeaWorld held a “Cruise to Success” celebration. Team Members were greeted by leadership with a welcome drink, cruise itinerary, and photo prop stations. Island music was playing when they arrived. Each team member received a pair of sunglasses and a thermos memorializing the event. The Housekeeping Team at DoubleTree by Hilton Toronto Downtown was serenaded to “Simply the Best” by the management team during a special luncheon.
• Team Members at Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah held fun games like an apple-eating contest (no hands) and a towel-folding competition. Team Members were also treated to a sumptuous breakfast at their main restaurant, Lexington Grill. “It’s our way of giving a big THANK YOU to our Housekeeping team,” said Nadir Adid.
• Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Monroe celebrated their Hamptonality by having a Mismatch Shoes Day. “It made everything so colorful,” said Lydia DeGroot. “We also showed our gratitude to our Housekeepers by hosting a team lunch.”
• Team Members at Embassy Suites by Hilton Williamsburg held a lip sync battle, played mini golf, had a soap-stacking contest, and more. They also created a fun video memento of the week and uploaded it to YouTube. Watch the video.
• Home2 Suites by Hilton Albany Airport/Wolf Rd had a different celebration every day of the week, starting with a kickoff game of Marshmallow Mania. Team Members had to use a straw to suck and transfer marshmallows from one bowl to another.
• The Providence Biltmore, Curio Collection by Hilton, held an afternoon ice cream break for their heroes of Housekeeping. “This team truly deserves it,” said Jane Eccleston.
• Medinah Hilton held a mummy-wrapping competition, where Team Members wrapped managers in toilet paper. They also celebrated Boss/Employee Exchange Day. Managers took over Housekeeping duties for a few hours while Team Members took a well-deserved break.
• Hilton Garden Inn Queretaro held a lunch in honor of their Housekeeping team where Team Members chose the menu. The Executive Housekeeper created a video montage to the song “We Are Family.” Each team member received a coffee thermos and mug set.
• To end Housekeeping Week, the team at Embassy Suites by Hilton Dallas Frisco Hotel Convention Center & Spa had a blast dropping toy parachutes off the 14th floor onto targets in the atrium.
• During the week, Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Swansboro/Near Camp Lejeune Bear Creek Gate took the team on a ferry ride of the city. “We learned about the history of the town and wrapped up the event with a lunch at the Red Burrito,” said Linda Thornley.
• Team Members at Home2 Suites by Hilton Buffalo Airport/Galleria Mall wrapped their managers as mummies in toilet paper, along with other fun games like sack races using pillow cases.
• Homewood Suites by Hilton Ithaca celebrated the week by bringing in an ice cream truck to deliver treats. Team Members also got a chance to dunk their manager and enjoyed a visit from Lewis the Duck.
• Boulders Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton, used the week to recognize their Executive Housekeeper, who was retiring after 20 years. Food, fun, and games were part of the celebration, including a contest to build the tallest K-Cup tower.
• Waldorf Astoria Chicago pulled out all the stops for their team during International Housekeeping Week, bringing in a food truck to serve a delicious barbecue lunch.HiltonGrandVacations
• West 57th Street by Hilton Club rolled out red carpet — literally, holding an Academy Award–themed party, complete with a 5-foot tall blowup Oscar, a red carpet walk of fame, and Hollywood stars for their VIPs. The week included fun games, like a K-Cup stacking competition and toilet tissue basketball.
• Hilton Mexico City Santa Fe gave each Team Member a pair of hotel slippers to decorate and keep. Team Members used ribbons, beads, and markers, to show off their creativity, and voted on their favorites.
• Management at DoubleTree by Hilton Avanos – Cappadocia dressed in traditional Ottoman attire and surprised the Housekeeping team by handing out delicious Turkish coffee.
• Homewood Suites by Hilton Tulsa-South printed custom T-shirts for their team that said “Housekeeper only because multi-tasking ninja is not an actual job title.”
• Home2 Suites by Hilton Queretaro printed T-shirts for the team and decorated the Housekeeping carts for the day with balloons, streamers, flowers, and signage.
