Keep a Supply of Gift Cards for Instant Recognition.

I make it a point to keep a variety of gift cards — all of them different and different amounts. It includes things like local restaurants, gas cards, iTunes, Wii points, Xbox Live, local area sporting events, etc. The cards range from $5 to $25. Whenever I see or hear about a teammate wowing a guest, I let them choose a card. All management has access to the cards and are encouraged to reward any employee for an “WOW” moment.

We love gift cards here! How do you manage the tax implications and budget on this? Are the taxes paid by the team member or the property? Do you have a limit on the number of gift cards that you award per month? Are there guidelines that your management team uses to help determine what deserves a gift card award?
