Chief Seattle once said, “The earth does not belong to us. We belong to the earth.” With this noble thought in mind and the Earth Hour 2014 (29th March 2014), Hilton Garden Inn Gurgaon Baani Square took their annual stand to raise awareness about the environment and sustainable living from 27th March 2014 to 29th March 2014.
Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off the non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Hundreds of millions of people, businesses, and governments around the world unite each year to support this event.
The team at Hilton Garden Inn Gurgaon Baani Square held a Poster-Making Competition on 27th March 2014, where Team Members from various departments made posters to educate others about how to conserve energy and make our planet a better place to live—for us and future generations.
On 28th March 2014, an “Articles Made out of Recycled/Waste Products” competition was arranged where Team Members from various departments submitted their entries to showcase how stuff that we generally treat as waste can be reused/recycled into useful products reducing the waste that goes out. Hence, focusing on the 3Rs of environment Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
The competitions were aimed to raise awareness about the environment and sustainable living, as well as make every Team Member understand that, as Chief Seattle said, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
On the 29th March 2014, during the day, winners from the competitions were awarded during a special Team Member gathering. And, during the Earth Hour (2030Hrs – 2130Hrs) lights for various Guest Areas as well as Back of the House Areas within the hotel were switched off the mark our support.
