The hotel had about 100 odd steel bins which were damaged and were to be removed from guest bedrooms. The only way these steel bins could have been discarded away was by ordering skip, which would cost the hotel in excess of £300.00 + VAT. Instead Ashish came up with the idea of recycling the metal bins which could generate some cash that could be donated to the Hilton Charity.
Ashish liaised with sustainability champion at the hotel Hiten Sanghvi to source out a recycling company who could collect these bins and pay some money to the hotel. The job was not that easy, since all the recycling companies required exact total metal weight before they could determine that after deducting the transport & Labour cost, if it was viable to hand out any money to the hotel??
Hiten was not only left with the difficult task of determining the exact metal weight, but also negotiating with the recycling companies to get right money paid for the metal scrap that could be donated to Hilton Charity. Hiten finally managed to liaise with Jason Metals & Recycling Ltd who decided to pay £50.00 after all deductions.
Thank you Hiten for all your hard work and for being a true Sustainability Champion.
