Spring Clean Week at Hilton Brisbane Hotel, Australia.

A change in season brings a change of wardrobe and that caused the Hilton Brisbane team to go home and give our wardrobes a makeover, getting rid of things that weren’t worn/used in while and donating them to the McIntyre Centre thrift shop.

The Spring Clean Week, organized by the BLUE ENERGY committee, took place between the 2nd and 8th of October. Throughout the entire week, everyone was bringing clothes, shoes, bric-a-bric (anything kitchen related, china, glass, frames), handbags and accessories, toys, suitcases, back packs, picture and paintings. All donated items are going to be sold at the thrift shop, helping to raise money for the centre. McIntyre Centre, Hilton Brisbane main charity, offers a variety of equine assisted development programs in a caring environment for young people and children with a disability.

The week was extremely successful, every day, bags and bags were dropped off at our HR department, donation point. Comments such as “It felt so good to do a big clean up at home, specially knowing all donated items are going towards helping others” or “We should do this more often” were heard as people dropped off their items, we even had someone coming in on her day off to bring her contribution. At the end of the week, members of the Blue Energy committee went through all items and divided into age groups and gender. As you can see below, the McIntyre Centre was thrilled with our donation.

“On behalf of the McIntyre Centre, Pony Riding for Disabled Children, I would like to say a BIG thank you to all the staff members at the Hilton Brisbane who recently participated in the “Spring Clean Out” initiative. The fantastic items that you donated have been distributed for sale amongst our four thrift shops located at Indooroopilly, Graceville, Oxley and Goodna.

Without the income from our thrift shops and the dedication of the wonderful volunteers who run them, the McIntyre Centre would not be able to provide therapeutic riding lessons to over 200 children and 25 young adults with disabilities who ride here each week. Our programs receive very little government funding and are predominantly financed through the generosity of people like yourselves who donate regularly to our shops. Other income is derived from corporates, community groups and individuals, both by financial and in kind support however it is the shops that contribute to the majority of our funding.

The McIntyre Centre is a very happy place where wonderful things happen on a daily basis. The difference that 30 minutes horse riding per week can make to a child in a wheelchair or a child with an intellectual disability has to be seen to be believed. To any Hilton staff member that has not been to visit us, we would love to show you around our Centre and share our vision for the future. We love having visitors and showing off our wonderful staff, volunteers and our beautiful horses so you are all more than welcome to come and see how your donation of goods benefits our children down the line!

Once again on behalf of the McIntyre Centre we sincerely appreciate all the support that we have received from the Brisbane Hilton in recent times. Your “blue army” did an amazing job helping in our flood recovery and we were truly humbled by your generosity. Thank you to all who donated! It is extremely rewarding to see that even with our busy lives and schedules we still found time to make this initiative a great success and support this remarkable charity that brings happiness and life to so many children.
