Where’s Shadi? Social Media Campaign Runs on Fun and Enthusiasm.

Where’s Shadi? He might have been the blur that just zipped by.

Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, Fla., owned Walt Disney World Marathon weekend when they launched a “Where’s Shadi?” social media campaign, designed to deeply engage runners and guests. Shadi Saman starred in the campaign as he ran the 13.1mi race and encouraged guests to track him via Twitter and Facebook for a chance to win prizes.

Shadi wore a GPS tracking device throughout the race and a running shirt emblazoned with the campaign’s logo – his own face! The device tweeted his location at various mile markers while Shadi posted to Facebook. Guests who caught up to Shadi and mentioned that they “found him” received prizes such as discount coupons for hotel restaurants and future hotel stays. The grand prize was a weekend stay at the hotel.

He didn’t break any records, but Shadi gave out more than 150 prizes and generated mountains of buzz for the hotel and marathon guests. The fun continued at a hotel-sponsored “Here’s Shadi” post-race party, where guests eagerly promised to return and “Catch Shadi” next year.

Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek always goes the extra mile for guests. For the marathon, the hotel provided transportation to the race, plus a carbohydrate-rich dinner and a “good luck” breakfast. Runners received surprise gifts and were cheered through early morning start times by a spirited hotel cheerleading team, who showed up as early as 3 A.M.!
