Hilton New Delhi / Janakpuri celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 to address the huge annual wastage and losses in food, which, if conserved, would release a large quantity of food as well as reduce the overall carbon footprint.
We celebrated “Vegetarian Week” in Santusthi, our staff cafeteria from 4th June to 9th June. The event aimed to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, to identify problems related to environment and ways to take corrective measures. No bin was kept in Santusthi for Team Members so that they took only required amount of food for a Food Waste-Free week.
On World Environment Day, we had the concept of serving food in the ratio of 65-35 (raw food – cooked food) . An exciting Menu was planned with Live Counters for Salad and Chaat in order to promote the nobel cause of minimising wastage and helping Team Members realising the importance of staying fit and healthy without long workouts in gym.
Further to this, entire week’s wastage quantity was recorded and displayed to create awareness about what we saved mentioning the approximate cost for positive environmental action. Seasonal vegetables and organic ingredients were also used at all the kitchens in the hotel during the week to make a positive impact on the environment.
