Zero Accidents Competition!

Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator,

I would like to share what our hotel is doing in the area of safety and security. We are running a campaign called “Zero Accidents.”

The entire hotel participates. We have divided the departments in three groups according to the accident rate they have.

Group A has the highest accident rate and group C the lowest.

The three groups have different goals. For example, group A has to achieve 90 days without accidents. When the group reaches half of the goal we celebrate with pizza and when they reach the entire number of days without accidents, we celebrate with a beach BBQ. The team members can check how many days without accidents their group has at a board located at the back of the house.

Dear Natalie,

Basically you have to perform an analysis of the accident rate at the hotel in order to classify the departments in groups.

Group A: Highest rate (i.e. engineering, kitchen, housekeeping)
Group B: Medium rate (i.e. banquets)
Group C: Lowest rate (i.e. administrative personnel, security, sales)

Then you have to establish a goal for each group. The group with the highest accident rate has the shortest goal, the others can have a higher one. For example: reach 30 days without accidents for group A.

Every day you will have to update the chart with the amount of days without accidents.

You can define the prize before beginning the campaign. For example: When a group reaches half of the days of the goal, we will celebrate with pizza. When the entire goal is reached you can have a bigger party. Having a prize in the middle will encourage TM to keep participating.

It is very important to have a strong culture in accident report. TM have to keep reporting every accident and near miss.

I hope these details might have helped you. Please let me know if you need anything else.
